BCREA established the Legal Defence Fund (LDF) to assist REALTORS® by providing financial support for legal expenses tied to matters of provincial importance.
Legal Support for REALTORS®
The real estate marketplace is a dynamic, demanding environment, and sometimes REALTORS®, despite their best intentions, may experience legal challenges that could negatively impact the sector as a whole. That’s why BCREA created the Legal Defence Fund (LDF) to support REALTORS® by contributing to legal costs, where applicable, related to issues of provincial significance.
What is the Legal Defence Fund?
Through licensing education and ongoing professional development, REALTORS® in BC are committed to upholding the highest standard of professionalism when working with clients and conducting real estate transactions. But sometimes, despite best efforts, REALTORS® may face disciplinary or legal challenges. That’s where BCREA’s LDF can provide assistance by helping identify and explore practice matters that need legal opinions or support.
Funds may help contribute to legal costs and litigation or disciplinary proceedings expenses.
The Legal Defence Fund Committee
The Legal Defence Fund Committee (LDFC) oversees the allocation of support and focuses on proactively emerging issues that could benefit from legal guidance. Additionally, the committee is dedicated to enhancing professional practices and fostering a deeper understanding of rules and regulations within the industry.
The LDFC diligently reviews applications and submissions and offers recommendations for legal support to ensure they align with BCREA’s mission statement and contribute to a consistent approach.
Legal Guidance Request
The LDFC now offers a Legal Guidance Request service to assist REALTORS® and managing brokers with legal and practice challenges. The service allows the committee to proactively address emerging legal issues that may affect the profession, provide support, and develop valuable resources.
How to Apply for Legal Defence Fund Support
REALTORS® can apply for financial and/or legal assistance through the Legal Defence Fund. They can initiate the process by completing the application form below. Once your application is submitted, the LDFC will thoroughly review the application and communicate the decision to you via email.
