Elections

BCREA and its member boards and associations actively engage in elections by advocating for critical issues, supporting housing debates, and offering resources to facilitate interaction with local candidates.

Working Collaboratively

BCREA is a non-partisan organization, focusing on the issues rather than the politics. We try to work collaboratively with whatever party is forming government, while also fostering relationships with the opposition.

BCREA and our member boards and associations participate in elections by promoting important issues, sponsoring housing debates, as well as providing resources to help engage with their local candidates.

We always encourage REALTORS® to get involved in the political process, focusing on issues that affect their communities and that can improve quality of life, such as housing affordability, consumer protection, or reducing homes’ environmental footprint.

While BCREA generally focuses on issues that are provincial in scope, we work with CREA and our member boards and associations on federal and local elections, since the outcomes of these can also significantly affect BC’s real estate sector.

Below are resources for REALTORS® on the upcoming local and provincial elections, including:

  • A link to information about the Union of BC Municipalities Convention 2024, where you can meet local and provincial politicians and attend sessions on housing and other important local issues.
  • General local elections in BC are held every four years on the third Saturday in October. The next general local election will be Saturday, October 17, 2026. Click here for more information about general local elections and check back for additional resources closer to the election date.
  • Local government by-elections in BC are held between general local elections to fill a vacancy on a municipal council or regional district board. Click here for a list of upcoming local by-elections and more information.
  • Provincial General Elections in BC are scheduled to take place every four years, but they can occur before a scheduled date if the government calls an election or loses the confidence of the Legislative Assembly. The next provincial general election is scheduled for October 19, 2024. There will be new electoral districts for the 2024 Provincial General Election. Find more information here, and check back for additional resources closer to the election date.
