The BCREA Legal Defence Fund Committee offers a Legal Guidance Request service to assist REALTORS® and managing brokers with legal and practice challenges.
Proactively Addressing Emerging Legal Issues
The Legal Guidance Request service allows the committee to proactively address emerging legal issues that may affect the profession, provide support, and develop valuable resources. The purpose of BCREA’s Legal Defence Fund is to aid REALTORS® by supporting litigation or providing legal assistance for issues of provincial significance. BCREA’s Legal Defence Fund Committee evaluates applications requesting assistance through the Legal Defence Fund, considering the strict criteria that must be met for a case to be accepted and funded.
Review Criteria
Upon submitting your request, the committee will conduct a thorough review based on the following criteria:
- Significance of the Matter:

- Evaluate the matter’s significance to a substantial number of REALTORS® in BC.

- Impact on Professional Standards:

- Assess how the outcome may provide clarity or impact professional standards and best practices in BC real estate.
- Consideration of how obtaining a legal opinion and guidance would enhance clarity in business practices, benefiting
BC REALTORS®.

- Public Interest/Perception:

- Evaluate the public interest and/or public perception surrounding the matter.
- Assess the potential broader impact beyond the REALTOR® and managing broker.
