BCREA CEO Trevor Koot Reflects on State of Housing in BC

March 22, 2024

After almost two years on the job, BCREA CEO Trevor Koot shares his thoughts on the state of the housing sector in BC and Canada and what he believes is needed for making progress in the years ahead.

Transcript

I’ve been in the real estate sector for almost 20 years of my own career, and having seen the industry from every angle – regulatory, MLS®, as a REALTOR®, as a broker – it is really unreal the amount of change that’s happened over the last little while, compared to say the first 15 years of my career. It’s been exponential.

There is a crisis. There’s no question. It’s not exclusive to any one area in BC. It’s not exclusive to any one area in Canada or the globe.

The challenge is that there is no silver bullet. There is no one solution. But what we do know is that the BC Real Estate Association, representing 26,000 realtors in the province of British Columbia, has a role to play. We’re trying to define what that role is and be a voice – not just for REALTORS®, but for the public.

I’ve been with the BCREA for almost two years and the biggest thing that I have appreciated is the team of people I get to work with every day.

Knowing that this team is available to REALTORS®, to consumers, to managing brokers, to all of our stakeholders in the province, to make sure we’re staying front and centre of all of this change in the industry, is key to our success moving forward.
